A few years ago, a beer commercial featured young men calling each other saying “whaassupp!” As their back and forth banter continued they seemed like they were trying to outdo one another on who could say “what's up” in a more ridiculous way. They didn’t seem that concerned with what the other person was actually doing unless of course that guy had a few cold ones he could share.
Candidates call me all the time to ask what is going on in the industry. My answer usually depends on what new openings I am working on or what type of candidates clients are asking for. I try not to focus on the negatives-plant closings, downsizings, etc. It is always painful to hear a person talk about being unemployed after many years through no fault of their own. These are intelligent, educated and hard working people who have something to offer.
Whenever I call someone whom I haven’t heard from in a while, more often than not, they tell me they have found something they are happy with. Now that is something we can both cheer about.
